Isn’t tearing paper so satisfying? But isn’t it even more satisfying to not let that paper go to waste and instead, use it to create some neat art? (I know you know where I’m going with this… 😂) Here is an easy and fun fall craft for kiddos that uses that ripped paper to create a sweet scene to hang up on the fridge!

Materials

  • Construction paper (red, orange, yellow, brown)
  • White paper
  • Crayons
  • Glue

Directions

  1. On the white sheet of paper, use crayons to draw some grass, a sun, some clouds, and a tree trunk (or whatever else your kiddo or you would like to add to your fall scene).

2. Then, take the colored paper and TEAR IT UP! Make sure the pieces are small enough to be proportional to your tree chunk, but not too small that it’s difficult to paste them onto your picture. My daughter tag framed this – she made the big tears, and I made them smaller.

3. Use a paintbrush to spread some glue on the top and above the tree trunk, below the treen branches on one side, and on the ground beside the tree. (You could also use a glue stick 😜)

4. Then, stick the tiny paper “leaves” on the glue. Before you know it, you’ll have a picturesque autumn scene to enjoy!

While tearing paper can be messy (my toddler especially likes tearing the wrappers off of crayons… WHYYY), it is yet another wonderful way to help your kids with their fine motor skills. I also loved just being able to model a version of this craft for my daughter and watch her just take off and do hers all on her own. What joy it is not only to be able to create, but to watch others create (especially when it’s your kid or students)!

Stay tuned for more fall crafts! Happy crafting and music making!
