Apples, applesauce, apple pie, apple cider doughnuts – you name it, my daughter and I love them all! We made this apple tree scene to kick off our fall crafts. It was fun to make and fun to play with afterwards too!
Materials
- Paper (blue, green, brown)
- Green felt
- Red pom poms
- Thin popsicle sticks
- Scissors
- Glue
- Marker
Directions
- Cut out a “cloud shape” from the green felt.
- Cut out a tree trunk from the brown paper.
- Cut out a strip from the green paper for the grass.
4. Take one of the popsicle sticks and cut them in half. Round out the edges (and feel free to file them to smoothen out the rough parts).
5. Glue the tree trunk, top of the tree, and grass onto the blue piece of paper (in that order).
6. Then, glue the popsicle sticks into an “A” shape for the ladder.
7. To make the scene “permanent” (that is, until your toddler rips them off, ha!), glue the red pom poms down onto the green part of the tree. To make it interactive, leave the pom pom apples as they are so you and your kids can stick and unstick them to the tree as you please!
I made a set of number cards for my daughter to use with this scene. I had her pick a card, read the number, and pick that number of apples off of the tree. This can be a fun, tactile way to practice counting or addition and subtraction! There are also countless poems and songs about apples and apple trees that you can pair with this craft.
In real life news, it’s been a challenge getting into the groove of being back at work in person and take care of my family and house. I’ve missed making crafts and writing songs as often as I did earlier this year, but I hope the quality of the crafts and music I share will “override” the quantity I so wish I had the time a energy to produce!
Anywho, I hope you have an absolutely wonderful start to the fall season! There’s so much beauty to see and fun to experience during this time of year!
Happy crafting and music making!
