Snowflakes are truly amazing, aren’t they? So many factors, including the temperature and humidity, affect how they take their unique shapes. While these snowflakes don’t go through as nearly complex a process as real ones they do, they are super fun to make and beautiful in their own way!
Materials
- Coffee filters
- Washable markers
- Watercolor paints
- Paintbrush
- Cup of water
- Pie tin (or other container)
- Scissors
Directions
- Draw some designs with the markers on a coffee filter.
2. Put the coffee filter in the pie tin (or other container) and brush water on the designs. The vibrancy will depend on the color and amount of ink from the markers, as well as how much water you use. Experimenting with this is part of what makes this craft so fun!
3. On another coffee filter, you can also try using watercolor paints to create different splotches of color.
My daughter and I did this one together 🙂
4. Let the coffee filters dry and use the time to jump around or eat a snack with your kids 😆
5. Once the coffee filters are dry, do several rounds of folding it in half. The more folds you do, the more patterns will show up after you cut them.
6. When the snowflake is folded up, cut some shapes out of the sides. If your child isn’t old enough to use scissors, you can do this part for them 😎
7. Open up the folds and there you have it – a one-of-a-kind snowflake!
These would be pretty to tape on the window or to create a garland with. We hung ours up in our basement playroom/music room to brighten up any gray, blustery days that I’m sure are headed our way! 🙂 Hope you and your kiddos have fun with this one!
Happy crafting and music making!
