Who knew jellyfish could look so silly? (Not me. It wasn’t until my daughter drew the mouths on this craft). The inspiration for this craft did not come from a trip to the aquarium but rather that my toddler called her sandals “the jellyfish shoes” instead of “jelly shoes.”
Materials
- Paper
- Ribbon or yarn
- Googly eyes
- Crayon or marker
- Hole punch
- Glue
- Scissors
Directions
- Fold a piece of paper in half (hamburger-wise… hehe!)
- Trace and then cut out a semi-circle with the fold still intact at the top. You can cut “squiggles” or “scallops” on the bottom to get that jellyfish shape.
3. Open up the fold and use the hole punch to create holes in the bottom of one of the flaps. We actually punched more holes than we ended up using, but feel free to make and use as many as you want!
4. Cut some ribbon for the tentacles (we cut them at about 2 feet each).
5. Thread the ribbon through the holes in the paper. We threaded 2 different colors of ribbon through the same hole. Tie a knot at the hole so the rest of the ribbon hangs freely.
6. Glue the flaps together to hide the holes and knots.
7. Glue the googly eyes to the front.
8. Draw a mouth.
And there you have it! The friendliest jellyfish you’ll probably ever meet, ha!
We gave some of our jellyfish to friends and before hanging up the ones we kept on the fridge, my daughter and I played with them. If you use flowy ribbon, they can be great to use for musical movement activities as well!
It’s hard to believe it’s August! Be on the lookout for more summer crafts coming your way – I’m gonna try to get in as many before we transition to fall!
Happy crafting and music-making!
