The main idea for these potted plants actually started with my students’ music class pet rock, Bob, and his rooftop terrace. Long story short, I made a mini version of these little guys that I attached to a plant ladder made out of popsicle sticks, just for Bob 🤣 Fast forward several months to when we had some paper towel tubes lying around and I knew how to make it preschooler/kid friendly!

Materials

  • Paper
  • Paper towel tube
  • Paint
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Tape

Directions

  1. Cut the paper towel tube into sections. We cut ours into 6 parts.
  2. Paint them however you want 🙂

3. After they are dry, start cutting out different leaf shapes from green paper (or other colors if you want to put flowers in your pots).

4. Then, tape the leaves on the insides of the tubes.

5. For the shelf, take a strip of paper and fold it in a simple zigzag lengthwise. Glue one of the outer folds on the bottom of a sheet of paper.

6. Lastly, glue or tape the backs of the ”pots” onto the paper above the shelves and enjoy your paper art!

My daughter and I loved the way these turned out and we hope you do! Happy crafting and music making!
