Welcome to my very first post on Crayons and Melodies! This blog has been a long time coming and I’m thrilled that it’s finally here! Thanks for taking the time to check it out and I hope you’ll be able to use the ideas on this website to make some awesome memories with the kids in your life! And now, without further ado…
THE HAPPINESS BOX.
Even though we are halfway through January, it is certainly not too late to make this craft, which you will be able to fill with happy memories throughout 2021!
When I was thinking about a craft we could make to kick off the New Year, I thought it would be cool if my daughter and I made something that we could circle back around to in December. And thus was born the “Happiness Box.” My hope is that we’ll fill this box with photos, handwritten memories, and other items from happy moments together this year and use them to decorate for New Year’s Eve at the end of 2021!
Materials:
- a box with a lid (we used a photo box)
- scissors
- marker
- glue and/or double stick tape
- colored paper
- anything you can decorate with (i.e. stickers, jewels, ribbons, glitter, macaroni, etc.)
As far as directions go, this one is pretty self-explanatory… decorate it however your kid wants! (Or if you’re like me, you can give your toddler some guidance. I can’t promise you that it will always be welcomed, though 😛 ) We labeled the lid “Our Happy Box” and surrounded it with self-adhesive jewels. Then, we stuck some homemade stickers on the sides of things that make my daughter happy. The day before, we made a list together of those things, and by “made a list together” I mean I asked her “Does __________ make you happy?” to which she answered “Yes!” to everything.
This was a fun little project that we were able to fit in during my lunch break in between music classes and before my little one’s nap, but now comes the challenging part – remembering to fill it up! I’ll have to think of a place where I will see it everyday so I won’t forget… so maybe in front of the coffee maker? 🙂
Anywho, I hope you and your kids have fun making this together and if you’d like, please send me a picture or tag me on Instagram – I would absolutely love to see!
Happy crafting & music-making!
